BIOGRAPHY

Emma picked up the cello at the age of 12 after playing the piano for nearly seven years and never looked back. She pre-college student of Hans Jørgen Jensen at Northwestern University, and has further honed her skills with additional lessons from Andrea LaFranzo, Alan Rafferty, Melissa Kraut, Nick Curry, Oleksa Mycyk, Sihao He, Sterling Elliott, Tom Landschoot, and Wei Yu. She has performed for Richard Aaron of Juilliard in a solo masterclass and received chamber music coaching from Anna Burden, Charles Pikler, Gerardo Ribeiro, Karlos Rodriguez, Mathias Tacke, members of The Lincoln Trio, and Shmuel Ashkenasi.

 

Emma pursued her college education at Miami University, where she earned her Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance, studying under Dr. Sarah Kim, as well as her Bachelor of Arts in Italian language and culture, graduating Magna Cum Laude in both. Under Dr. Kim’s guidance, she received top honors, including the maximum music department talent scholarship, academic scholarships, and several cello-specific awards.

 

Emma has participated in numerous programs and festivals, including the Aronson Cello Festival, Ascent Chamber Music Festival, Birch Creek Summer Music Academy, Chicago Chamber Music Festival, Complete Cellist, International Academy of Music (Italy), and the Meadowmount School of Music. She is affluent in solo and ensemble playing, having been a member of several orchestras such as the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra, Fermi Community Orchestra, Kankakee Valley Symphony, Youth Symphony of DuPage, Midwest Young Artists Conservatory, and Miami University Symphony Orchestra, where she has held both principal and co-principal positions.

 

Her passion for ensemble work extends beyond orchestras, as shown through her involvement in various chamber music experiences. Emma has competed in numerous solo and chamber competitions, including the Discover Competition, Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, Morpheus Chamber Competition, Walgreens Concerto Competition, and the Youth Symphony of DuPage Concerto Competition, where she won first place.

 

With a deep dedication to her craft, Emma has continually worked to cultivate a sound and repertoire that sets her apart.
